Julian Kuerti, fils du pianiste bien connu, dirigeait jeudi soir le premier concert de l’Orchestre Métropolitain au Centre Pierre-Charbonneau. Détail non mentionné dans le feuillet distribué au public, le musicien de 36 ans est maintenant le «principal chef invité» de l’OM. On ignore la durée du contrat, mais on sait qu’il dirigera à ce titre deux programmes la saison prochaine.

In a media conference 22nd March, in Montréal, the Orchestre Métropolitain announced Julian Kuerti as their first-ever Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra. Following immense critical and public acclaim of his interpretation of Bartók’s Miraculous Mandarin with the orchestra in April 2012, a unanimous decision amongst the musicians, administration and Yannick Nézet-Séguin was made to bring Kuerti back in a designated role as Principal Guest Conductor.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra drew a crowd for its Thursday night concert, featuring Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony — possibly the best known symphony out there. It’s ubiquitous throughout popular culture, found in movies, television, commercials. It was even remixed in the ’70s into a disco song, and has been sampled by pop stars over the last decade.
